The event organized by EUROCITIES took place on the 26th-28th of April in Ghent and explored possible collaboration among cities and businesses to face the energy crisis.
This year’s Eurocities Environment Forum was entitled “Empowering cities” and was aimed at fuelling collaboration to accelerate the transition to greener, more inclusive cities.
The event gathered cities from all over Europe to share inspiring ideas and ongoing challenges in achieving sustainable urban development. Cities were joined by representatives from the industry and the European Commission seeking to collaborate and shape the future of sustainable cities.
The forum was hosted in Ghent, one of the two light-house cities of the NEUTRALPATH project. “Cities such as Ghent can play the role of pioneers in the transition towards climate neutrality. The change is starting here and I hope we can inspire other cities to prioritise decarbonisation” said Mathias De Clerq – the mayor of Ghent.
The forum represented the ideal occasion to officially introduce the NEUTRALPATH project to the Eurocities community and kick off future collaborations. Eurocities is a network of more than 200 cities in 38 countries, promoting cooperation and knowledge exchange, and advocating for urban issues at the European level.
